WBC Membership

The purpose of this organization is to promote and advance the study of groups, organizations, and social systems in the tradition of AKRI in the United States and the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London, England. The organization may sponsor conferences and events, offer consultation, conduct research, and engage in other activities as may be in accord with its purpose.

Membership in WBC shall be open to any person who has:

• Attended as a member nine days at a Group Relations Conferences(s) (at least four of which days have been at a residential conference), held under the auspices of AKRI, one of its Centers, or the Tavistock Institute.

• Demonstrated competence, integrity, and adherence to high professional standards by participation in a training course on group process sponsored by W-BC, OR by research, publication, or teaching in areas related to the Purpose of W-BC, OR thorough work in organizational consultation in accord with the Purpose of W-BC.

• Submitted two letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from a AKRI Associate, attesting to the competence and integrity of the applicant in any of these areas.

In accordance with the policy established by AKRI, only a member in good standing who has also been a member of 2 residential conferences in the AKRI/Tavistock tradition, of which at least one is of 9 days or more in length and the other is of at least 5 days in length, may work as a consultant or as a consultant-in-training on the staff of a WBC-sponsored group relations conference. (These criteria are currently under study by the Center.)
