A Brief History
The Advanced Training in Small Group Process workshop is part of
a tradition developed at the Centre of Applied Social Research at
the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London in the 1950’s.
The “Tavistock Tradition” involves helping people learn
about leadership and authority in groups and organizations. This
work continues in the United States through the A.K. Rice Institute
and its eight regional centers, of which the Washington-Baltimore
Center is the oldest.
Advanced
Training in Small Group Process Primary Task
The primary task of this workshop is to provide opportunities for
those with group relations experience to study in depth and receive
training on the small group consultant role from Tavistock perspective.

How
To Apply
Eligibility This workshop is intended for men and women in positions
of authority from various work settings who have attended A.K. Rice
conferences. Priority will be given to those applicants who are
more experienced in group relations conference life. There are a
maximum of 16 training slots available.
Format
The workshop is primarily experiential. Each member will be given
an opportunity to be in the role of the small group consultant while
others are in the role of small group members. The faculty will
observe and comment on each member/consultant’s work. These
comments will be offered to the entire group as a means of enhancing
learning.
Logistics
The workshop begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and will be held in Washington,
D.C. at The Alexander Institute. The address is 1715 N Street, N.W.
Members are responsible for their own weekend lodgings and meals.
A list of hotels, the many and varied places to eat in Dupont Circle
area, and other materials will be provided with your acceptance.
Snacks and beverages will be provided at breaks. Questions about

Tuition
The tuition
for this workshop is $300.00. A non-refundable deposit of $100.00
must accompany this application. Any applicant not selected will
receive a full refund, including deposit. Make check payable to
